Consistency is the key.
My fitness journey started to be really significant after reaching 30. But even then, things were not so clear for me, although I went with my workouts and took a little bit care of what I was eating.
Just after 40, when my fitness activity gain consistency and really became a habit, things got more clear and I really found out what pushes me and what to pay attention to.
- My motivation became clear.
Yes, I always wanted to be in good shape, this matters to me. I used to be chubby in school and high school and this really made a mark on my personality. All those years, I had to suffer comments and my own feelings of frustration when looking in the mirror and see all that extra weight that I simply could not get rid of. So now I work out and try to eat healthy because I know I want to live 100 years old and be in the best shape possible to live the active, fun life I plan to live.
- Consistency works best.
Even in these recent years, when my training habits increased, the results I had before were not as good as the ones I got now. And this even with shorter workouts, diverse exercises and consistency. I work out 4-5 times a week minimum, shorter exercises, generally full body, with focus on either upper body or lower body.
- My workouts are fun and diverse.
This is kind of connected on the point above, meaning I try to vary my workouts so that the body doesn’t get used to one type of workouts. Also, I mix weight training with resistance exercises, I keep days for HIIT bodyweight workouts, I use many fitness accessories (so that, even the exercise is the same, when using weight or band, the move is different and so are the results). All these things make my workout routine fun, and this keeps me motivated to stay consistent.
- Keep my goal in mind.
Yes, I have a vision board (and it’s working!) and I always know my long term goal, this is always in my mind, but somehow behind. This way, my long term goal doesn’t work out against me (in the way that not being able to reach it fast is not frustrating me), but the goal is there, always present in my head. What I follow though and stay attentive to are the daily steps and actions: Did I work out today? Have I eat properly? Have I done something for my soul today? Did I meditate?
- Results are the best drive.
I work out and keep an eye on nutrition for years now. But, sometimes, this is not enough. And, until I saw results, clear results on my body, nothing made me keep pushing and keep sweating than these results on my body. Results are the best motivation. When you see your legs nice shaping, your booty getting toned, your arms defining, you don’t need anything else to help you stay consistent, to help you keep going.
Basically, these things worked for me. What I do advice you is to try my “stimulus” and see if they work for you. But, more than that, you should pay attention and stay open to see if other triggers work for you and only then keep pushing on those ones. Because, as usual, whatever works for me might not always work for everyone. But you can start from here and just stay open to where it leads you.
Until next time,
XoXo
